Dragon Ball Z (ドラゴンボールZ, Doragon Bōru Zetto?) (usually abbreviated as DBZ) is a sequence of animation produced by Toei Animation. Based on the Dragon Ball manga sequence written by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Z corresponds to volumes 17 to 42 of the manga that was published in the magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump, from 1988 to 1995, and debuted in Japan on Fuji TV on April 26, 1989 , and ended January 31, 1996 with a total of 291 episodes, before being dubbed in several territories around the globe, including the United States, Australia, Europe, India and Latin America.

The success of the Dragon Ball sequence led to the creation of the sequel, Dragon Ball Z, being one of the most well-known anime of every time. This sequence appears stuffed with long fighting with a lot of action. In Dragon Ball Z, the stories have a more serious climate than their predecessor. They replaced the comedy, nevertheless the humor still exists in large numbers parts of the series. It has several episodes in which the suspense is intertwined with events that first do not seem to have great relevance, or of facts unnoticed and revealed with greater detail at the height of such an event.

It was released the first BOX with 4 DVDs of Dragon Ball Z in August 2012, being the first time the anime is officially distributed in home video in Brazil by the Playarte group. Currently in the 3rd box with 52 episodes already released.

The popularity of Dragon Ball Z has spawned numerous releases that accounted for most of the content in the Dragon Ball universe; including 17 films and 148 video games, large numbers of them being released only in Japan, and a number of soundtracks from that material. Dragon Ball Z remains a cultural icon through numerous adaptations, including a newer remastered broadcast, titled Dragon Ball Kai.
